Labor & Delivery RN – High-Risk Antepartum Unit

Location: Asheville, NC

Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Guaranteed Hours: 36/week

About the Role

The facility's Maternal Fetal Medicine unit specializes in high-risk pregnancy care. You'll provide direct nursing care to antepartum patients, managing complex conditions such as preeclampsia, hemorrhage, and fetal distress. This is a fast-paced environment where clinical judgment and strong communication with the interdisciplinary team are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor maternal and fetal status continuously; interpret fetal heart rate patterns and uterine contractions
  • Manage high-risk OB conditions with appropriate emergency interventions
  • Assist with vaginal deliveries and provide circulating support for cesarean sections
  • Administer labor induction/augmentation medications and epidural support per orders
  • Provide immediate newborn resuscitation and care
  • Educate patients and families on labor progression and postpartum care
  • Collaborate with OB physicians, midwives, anesthesia, and NICU teams
  • Document accurately in the electronic health record

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license (state or compact)
  • 2+ years L&D experience with high-risk OB exposure
  • BLS, ACLS, and NRP certification required
  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required
  • Experience with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, D&C, and cerclage procedures
  • Immediate newborn care competency

Preferred

  • BSN degree
  • Circulating experience

Float Requirements

May float to L&D, Maternal-Newborn, and NICU as needed.
