Labor & Delivery RN – High-Risk Antepartum Unit
Location: Asheville, NC
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 36/week
About the Role
The facility's Maternal Fetal Medicine unit specializes in high-risk pregnancy care. You'll provide direct nursing care to antepartum patients, managing complex conditions such as preeclampsia, hemorrhage, and fetal distress. This is a fast-paced environment where clinical judgment and strong communication with the interdisciplinary team are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor maternal and fetal status continuously; interpret fetal heart rate patterns and uterine contractions
- Manage high-risk OB conditions with appropriate emergency interventions
- Assist with vaginal deliveries and provide circulating support for cesarean sections
- Administer labor induction/augmentation medications and epidural support per orders
- Provide immediate newborn resuscitation and care
- Educate patients and families on labor progression and postpartum care
- Collaborate with OB physicians, midwives, anesthesia, and NICU teams
- Document accurately in the electronic health record
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- 2+ years L&D experience with high-risk OB exposure
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP certification required
- Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required
- Experience with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, D&C, and cerclage procedures
- Immediate newborn care competency
Preferred
- BSN degree
- Circulating experience
Float Requirements
May float to L&D, Maternal-Newborn, and NICU as needed.
