Respiratory Therapist – NICU/Acute Care | Night Shift | Austin, TX

Contract: 13 Weeks | Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Hours: 36 guaranteed per week | Start: August 17, 2026

This 13-week contract opportunity is ideal for an experienced Respiratory Therapist comfortable working in a high-acuity acute care environment, including neonatal and adult respiratory care.

Unit Overview

The respiratory therapy department covers a broad clinical scope across the hospital. Candidates must be comfortable managing patients from 32 weeks gestation through adult critical care. The team runs 7–9 staff per shift under dedicated supervisor coverage, with assignments based on patient volume and clinical need.

Clinical Scope

  • Nebulizer treatments, CPT, and arterial blood gas collection
  • Ventilator management including transport within the facility (e.g., to imaging)
  • High-flow nasal cannula therapy
  • BiPAP management
  • Inhaled nitric oxide delivery
  • Bronchoscopy and intubation assistance

Schedule

  • Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Rotating weekends — approximately 4 per month
  • No on-call requirement

Requirements

  • Active RRT credential
  • Adult respiratory experience in an acute care setting required
  • Adult critical care (ICU or ED) experience strongly preferred
  • Must be comfortable managing neonatal patients (32-week gestation and above)
  • Strong interpersonal and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
