Emergency Department Nurse
Location: Wichita, KS
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 4 x 12-hour shifts per week
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
About the Role
The facility's Emergency Department is seeking an experienced RN to join a high-volume team with a significant behavioral health patient population. You'll work in a fast-paced environment where critical thinking, decisive judgment, and strong communication are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform rapid and assessment to determine patient acuity and prioritize care
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with emergent and urgent conditions
- Respond to trauma activations, codes, and rapid patient deterioration with appropriate interventions
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions per physician orders
- Monitor and manage patients throughout their ED stay—from arrival through admission, transfer, or discharge
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and the interdisciplinary team on care planning
- Educate patients and families on discharge instructions and follow-up care
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient response in the electronic medical record
- Maintain patient flow and throughput in a demanding, high-volume setting
- Apply infection control, safety, and de-escalation protocols consistently
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department experience
- Experience with protocols and high-acuity environments
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN degree
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse)
