Bone Marrow Transplant Unit – Oncology Nurse

Position Overview

The facility seeks an experienced oncology nurse for its bone marrow transplant unit. You'll provide intermediate-level care to patients undergoing high-complexity treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, cell therapy, and transplantation in a patient isolation setting. This is a 12-week night shift contract with favorable nurse-to-patient ratios.

Schedule & Duration

  • 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • 36 guaranteed weekly hours
  • 16-week contract
  • Holiday commitments: Must work 2 of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) and 1 minor holiday (day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, or New Year's Eve)

Requirements

  • Active RN license (state or compact)
  • AHA BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification (ONS) required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent oncology experience
  • Strong vascular access skills (peripheral IV, PICC, implanted ports)
  • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) preferred
  • BSN preferred; ADN accepted

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and biotherapy per protocol
  • Manage vascular access and monitor for complications
  • Assess patients pre-, during, and post-treatment for adverse reactions
  • Address treatment-related symptoms (nausea, pain, neutropenia, fatigue)
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans and self-care
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary oncology teams
  • Follow OSHA/USP <800> safe handling guidelines
  • Document care accurately in the EMR
