Bone Marrow Transplant Unit – Oncology Nurse
Position Overview
The facility seeks an experienced oncology nurse for its bone marrow transplant unit. You'll provide intermediate-level care to patients undergoing high-complexity treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, cell therapy, and transplantation in a patient isolation setting. This is a 12-week night shift contract with favorable nurse-to-patient ratios.
Schedule & Duration
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- 36 guaranteed weekly hours
- 16-week contract
- Holiday commitments: Must work 2 of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) and 1 minor holiday (day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, or New Year's Eve)
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- AHA BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification (ONS) required
- Minimum 2 years of recent oncology experience
- Strong vascular access skills (peripheral IV, PICC, implanted ports)
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) preferred
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted
Clinical Responsibilities
- Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and biotherapy per protocol
- Manage vascular access and monitor for complications
- Assess patients pre-, during, and post-treatment for adverse reactions
- Address treatment-related symptoms (nausea, pain, neutropenia, fatigue)
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans and self-care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary oncology teams
- Follow OSHA/USP <800> safe handling guidelines
- Document care accurately in the EMR
