Medical-Surgical Telemetry Nurse
Shift: Night shift, three 12-hour shifts per week (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Duration: 13 weeks
Location: Canton, OH
License: Active Ohio or compact state RN license required
About the Role
The facility's medical-surgical telemetry unit provides care to adult patients with a wide range of medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions. You'll monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs continuously, respond to changes in patient condition, and manage pre- and post-operative care including wound management and pain control.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to 4–6 patients per shift
- Monitor telemetry and vital signs; recognize and respond to rhythm changes
- Administer medications and cardiac drips per physician orders
- Manage pre- and post-operative patients, including wound and pain management
- Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on care coordination and discharge planning
- Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient response accurately in the EMR
- Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
Requirements
- Minimum 18 months recent medical-surgical telemetry experience (permanent role preferred)
- Active BLS and ACLS certification
- NIHSS certification (must obtain prior to start)
- Strong telemetry and EKG interpretation skills
- One recent manager or supervisor reference from the specialty required
- Must work at least every other holiday
You'll complete an ECG rhythm recognition test and medication safety assessment during orientation; acceptable scores on both are required.
BSN preferred; ADN accepted.
