Labor & Delivery Nurse – Night Shift
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery nurse for a 13-week contract. You'll work night shifts (7:00 PM–7:30 AM), three 12-hour shifts per week, providing direct care to laboring patients through delivery and supporting antepartum and perioperative roles as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor maternal and fetal status during labor; assess and interpret fetal heart rate patterns and uterine contractions
- Administer labor induction/augmentation medications and provide epidural support per physician orders
- Assist with vaginal deliveries and circulate for cesarean sections in the OB operating room
- Manage high-risk OB conditions including preeclampsia, hemorrhage, and fetal distress
- Provide immediate newborn resuscitation and care
- Educate patients and families on labor progress, pain management, and postpartum expectations
- Collaborate with OB physicians, midwives, anesthesia, and NICU teams
- Document care accurately in the electronic health record
Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of recent, permanent Labor & Delivery experience
- Active RN license (Ohio or compact state) in hand at time of application
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
- One professional reference from a manager, ANM, supervisor, or director in L&D (from past 12 months) — co-worker references will not be accepted
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification preferred
Additional Notes
ECG rhythm recognition and medication safety assessments will be completed during orientation. COVID-19 and flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions only).
