Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Step-Down RN — Night Shift

Shift & Schedule
12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (shift options include 6:30 PM–7:00 AM or 6:30 PM–7:00 AM cyclic). Guaranteed 36 hours per week. Every-other-weekend requirement; one major and one minor holiday required.
Unit Overview
This fast-paced step-down unit cares for intermediate-acuity patients with diagnoses including heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke. RNs are expected to independently read and interpret telemetry strips. The unit sees a high volume of admissions and discharges — candidates who thrive here are team-oriented, adaptable, and patient-focused.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips (e.g., cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin)
- Monitor and manage patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of deterioration
- Troubleshoot CPAP as needed
- Respond to rapid response and code situations
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team on care planning and patient education
Float Requirement
May float to the ICU if the candidate has appropriate experience.
Required Certifications
BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Orientation
One 12-hour shift of unit-specific orientation; includes a pass/fail open-book skills exam (90% minimum required to pass).
Additional Requirements
- Active RN license (Iowa or applicable compact)
- 1+ year PCU/step-down experience preferred
- Artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas
- Please submit all requested time off upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
