Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Travel RN | Council Bluffs, IA

13-Week Contract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts

This is a fast-paced step-down unit caring for patients with cardiac and respiratory conditions, including heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke. The unit sees a high volume of admissions and discharges, making adaptability and strong teamwork essential.

Shift & Schedule

• Nights: 6:30 PM–7:00 AM or 6:30 PM–7:00 AM (cyclic scheduling)
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week
• Every-other-weekend requirement
• One major and one minor holiday required
• Start date: August 31, 2026

Clinical Scope

• Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips (e.g., antiarrhythmics, vasodilators, rate-control agents)
• Independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Manage patients on CPAP
• Float to ICU if experience is appropriate
• Charge nurses present each shift and carry a full patient assignment; PCTs available on unit

Requirements

• Active RN license (Iowa or applicable compact)
• BSN required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of PCU/step-down experience
• Telemetry interpretation skills required

Additional Notes

• Orientation includes a skills-based open-book exam; minimum passing score of 90% required
• Artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility and must not currently hold employment (full-time, part-time, or PRN) with any affiliated system facilities
